If you do not log visits, you improve performance and save database space. Enter the following command in the Console.
set-preference -name DISABLE_VISITOR -value true
Moving Visit History Data to Files
To improve database performance, ManualWorks saves visit history data in files. Because the current day's data must be reflected in real time, it is still saved in the database as before, and then the scheduler moves it to files.
This improves the overall performance of the Statistics menu.
A user with the “Administrator” permission migrates existing data as follows.
Go to the <Statistics | Visit Statistics> menu.
Click the <1Data Conversion> link.
Click the 2 button for each year that needs migration to convert the data year by year.
If you use Apache Derby, go to the <Admin | Servers | Derby> menu and click the button for the R_VISIT table to reduce data space. If you use another database, use the features that the database provides to save data space.
Note the following.
The VisitClearScheduler scheduler saves the visit history of the last 5 days, excluding the current day, to files and deletes it from the database.
Visit history older than the visit history retention period (VISIT_RETENTION_PERIOD) is deleted from both the database and the files.
If you set the visit history retention period to 0, the scheduler neither moves visit history to files nor deletes it.
The data is saved in the visit directory under DB_DIR.
Managing Visit Statistics Files
A user with the “Administrator” permission clicks the “Visit File Manager” link on the visit statistics screen to view the size of the visit history moved to files by year, month, and day.
If you click the “Delete” link and select a date, all visit history files up to and including that date are deleted. You cannot recover deleted files.
Notification of Visit History Not Moved to Files
If visit history older than 30 days remains in the database, ManualWorks sends a notification to administrators when the server starts. When you receive the notification, run the data conversion in the steps above. You can move the data while ManualWorks is in use.
Because the scheduler moves the last 5 days of data to files every day, the threshold is 30 days to allow for a server that was stopped for several days.
If you set the visit history retention period to 0, no notification is sent.
You can check the oldest visit history remaining in the database in the “Visit History in Database” item on the “Health Check” tab of the <Admin | Servers | System Statistics> menu.
Supported starting with ManualWorks 6.0.25.
