PDF Page Layouts

Create layouts for PDF files in the <Style | PDF Page Layout> menu.

The <PDF Page Layout> menu appears only to users with the “Create Style” permission.

What Is a PDF Page Layout?

A PDF theme styles the content you write in the editor, and a PDF page layout determines the frame that holds the content. The width that the content occupies is determined by the paper size and margins set in the PDF page layout.1

In addition, you can design the title pages, set headers and footers for left and right pages, and set the layout of chapter start pages(the position and style of the chapter title, and so on).

In summary, you can do the following with a PDF page layout.

Creating a PDF Page Layout

The input fields of a PDF page layout are as follows.

If you do not set “Paper”, A4 is used by default. If a layout you saved earlier with Legal paper has a page width of 21.00 cm, select the paper again to change the width to 21.59 cm.

Setting the Number of Columns in the PDF Body

You can select the number of columns in the PDF body to create a PDF file whose body is divided into two columns.

To set the PDF body to two columns, follow these steps.

  1. Go to the <Style | PDF Page Layout> menu.

  2. Create a PDF page layout whose body you want to divide into two columns.

  3. In the “Paper” panel, set 2Column Count to ‘2’.

  4. Click the button.

To divide the body into columns, we recommend that you create a new PDF page layout with a larger page width rather than change an existing layout.

In a layout divided into two columns, a "Page Break" moves the content to the next column, not to the next page.

Setting Margins

Set the margins between the edges of the paper and the area where the content is placed.

Setting margins

Setting margins

The width that the content occupies is the page width minus the margins on both sides. You set the inside and outside margins of left and right pages separately. However, you can save only when the sum of the inside and outside margins of the left page equals the sum of the inside and outside margins of the right page.

Top

The top margin. The default is 2.54 cm.

Bottom

The bottom margin. The default is 2.54 cm.

Left Page

Inside is the right margin of the left page, and outside is the left margin of the left page. The default for both inside and outside is 1.91 cm.

Right Page

Inside is the left margin of the right page, and outside is the right margin of the right page. The default for both inside and outside is 1.91 cm.

Selecting a Page Type

Design the layout for each page type as follows.

All page types have the same paper size. The Left Page type uses the left page margins, and all other page types use the right page margins.
