PDF Fonts

Add the fonts to use when creating PDF files in the <Style | PDF Font> menu.

The <PDF Font> menu appears only to users with the “Create Style” permission.

Uploading PDF Fonts

Make sure that embedding a font in PDF files does not cause license issues. Even when you purchase a commercial font, carefully check that you also purchased the right to embed the font in PDF files. Using fonts without permission can cause unexpected legal issues.

To upload a font, follow these steps.

  1. Go to the <Style | PDF Font> menu.

  2. Click the <Create PDF Font> link and upload a font.

    • You can upload not only TrueType font files with the ttf extension but also TrueType Collection files with the ttc extension.

    • OpenType fonts with the otf extension are also supported.

    • You can also compress font files into a zip or tar.gz file and upload it.

    • If you upload the same font file, it is overwritten.

The list groups PDF fonts by font family. For example, fonts such as NanumGothic, NanumGothic Bold, and NanumGothic ExtraBold are grouped into the “NanumGothic” font family.

Deleting PDF Fonts

Setting Alternative Fonts

An alternative font is a feature that links another font to display characters(for example, Chinese characters) that a font cannot display.

To set an alternative font, follow these steps.

  1. Go to the <Style | PDF Font> menu.

  2. In the PDF font list, click the PDF font for which to set an alternative font.

  3. Click the <1Add> link to set an alternative font.

  4. Drag and drop the <2drag_indicator> icon to change the order.

    • If multiple fonts can display the same character, the font higher in the list is applied first.

  5. If the relative sizes of the fonts differ, adjust the size ratio of the alternative font in 3.

    • The range is from 50 to 200.

  6. Click the button.

    • After you save, you return to the ‘PDF Font List’.

Registering Liberation Fonts

You must register the Liberation fonts for the preview to display correctly when a PDF theme uses “PDF Adobe standard fonts”.

PDF Adobe standard fonts are only declared in the PDF file, not embedded in it. Because these fonts display the same characters with the same width and height, the PDF reader displays the document with a suitable font for each operating system. For example, if you set the font to “Helvetica” in a PDF theme, it is displayed as “Liberation Sans” in the preview, as “Arial” when you open the PDF file on Windows, and as “Helvetica” on macOS.

Because of licensing issues, these fonts cannot be distributed with the product, but you can use them without any problem.

The Liberation fonts consist of three types of fonts.
