Importing MS Word Files

You can import only Word files with the docx extension.

You cannot import MS Word files that have document protection applied. Errors may occur depending on the content of the Word file.

Creating a Document from an MS Word File

Import a Word file as a single document that consists of multiple chapters.

Selecting a Word File

On the Dashboard, click the <Import> link, and then select “1Import Word File” from the context menu.

Use the <2Import> link to select a Word file.

Setting Options

A preview screen appears. Set several options on this screen.

1You can change the document title. The default is the name of the Word file.

2Select the document type.
If you select Book, you can split the document into chapters. You cannot change this after you import the file.

3Select the document language. You can change it after you import the file.

4Set the table paragraph layout.

5Select this option if you typed numbers into heading paragraphs manually instead of using the numbering that Word provides.
The leading numbers are removed.

6Save the document. If you select Book as the type, you must split the chapters before you save.

Deleting Paragraphs You Do Not Want to Import

You can exclude some paragraphs from the import. Click the <1drag_indicator> icon of a paragraph you do not want to import, and then select <2Delete> from the context menu.

An image that is separated from the content before and after it is imported as an image paragraph. Otherwise, it is imported as an inline image within the paragraph.

Clip art, shapes, charts, and other objects inserted in MS Word, as well as edits made to images, are not imported. Only the original images inserted in MS Word are imported.

Bold text in MS Word becomes “Strong”, and italic text becomes “Emphasis”. For details, see the following table.
