In the <Tool | Export> menu, you export documents and styles as XML files1, and in the <Tool | Import> menu, you import the exported files.
Use export and import to move documents and styles between different ManualWorks servers. They do not create files such as PDF or MS Word files. To create files, see Creating Files.
Exporting
Export a document or style as an XML file as follows.
Go to the <Tool | Export> menu.
1Select the Document or Style tab.
On the Document tab, click the <Choose a document.> link to add the documents to export. On the Style tab, select web themes, PDF themes, web viewer layouts, and PDF page layouts. To move the files attached to the documents as well, turn on the “Also export the files attached to the documents.” option on the Document tab.
Click the <2Export> button.
Download the file with the ZIP extension.
Exporting
Users without the “Create Style” role can also export styles. You can export only documents for which you are an owner, collaborator, or reviewer. If there are no documents you can export, nothing is exported and you are notified.
Exporting Attached Files
If you turn on the “Also export the files attached to the documents.” option, the files attached to the exported documents are added to the ZIP file. Attached files hidden from download in the web viewer are added too, and the hidden setting is restored on import. If you turn the option off, attached files are not added, so they cannot be downloaded from the imported documents.
Supported from ManualWorks 6.0.27.
On import, attached files are handled as follows.
An attached file that already exists is not created again. Even if you import the same ZIP file several times, there is only one copy of each attached file. However, if the importing user cannot see the existing file in the File menu, it is not linked to the imported documents.
A new attached file goes into its original file directory. If that directory does not exist, a directory with the same name is created and the importing user becomes its leader. The directory is created at the top level, without its parent directories. Files are not put into a directory where the importing user is neither a leader nor a member. Such files, and attached files that had no directory, go into the top-level directory.
You can download the attached files from the web viewer of the imported documents, just as from the original documents.
Importing
Import an exported document or style as follows.
Go to the <Tool | Import> menu.
Click the <1Upload> link and select the file to import.
When importing, use the exported ZIP file without modification.
Importing
- Actually, a ZIP file that compresses the XML file and image files is exported. If you turn on the option, attached files are compressed as well.
