Creating Files

ManualWorks supports single source publishing, which converts content you write once into the web viewer or into PDF, EPUB, HTML, MS Word, and other formats.

Creating Files

The time it takes to create PDF, EPUB, HTML, MS Word, and other files depends on the size of the document and the number of images it contains. When you change the content, you must create the files again. Files are also created when you create a tag. In the web viewer or the editor, you can create a PDF file of only the current chapter.

To create a file, follow these steps.

  1. On the document details page, click the <1Build File> link.

  2. On the 2tabs, select the type of file to create.

  3. Select a theme and layout, or a cover image.

  4. Click the 3 button.

When you create a PDF file, no page break occurs between a heading paragraph and the paragraph that follows it.

Setting the File Name

The file name is the document title followed by the file extension(ManualWorks 6.0 User Guide.pdf). You can set the file name, for example, by adding the subtitle or removing spaces.

  1. Go to the <Admin | Preferences | General> menu.

  2. In the “Basics” panel, click the <Update> link.

  3. Enter the “Export Filename Pattern”.

  4. Click the button.

Only users with the “Administrator” permission can set the file name.

You can use the following parameters.

To add text before or after a parameter only when the parameter has a value, write [prefix:TEXT] or [suffix:TEXT] right after the parameter. The following setting inserts - between the title and subtitle only when there is a subtitle.

Creating Files for Multiple Documents at Once

You can also select multiple documents at once and create files in multiple formats at the same time.

To create PDF, EPUB, HTML, and MS Word files for multiple documents at once, follow these steps.

  2. Click the <1Build File> link.
