In the <Tool | Compare Text> menu, you select two chapters and compare their content. Use it to compare two chapters side by side regardless of revision history.
You need the “Write & Read” permission.
This is an experimental feature. It can change or be removed at any time.
Unit of Comparison
Text comparison works by chapter. Note the following.
You cannot compare entire documents (books) as a whole. You must select the chapters to compare one at a time.
You can select chapters in different documents. For example, you can compare a chapter of the ManualWorks 6.0 User Guide with a chapter of the 5.0 User Guide.
You can also select two chapters in the same document.
It differs from revision comparison as follows.
Revision comparison compares different points in time of one chapter or one document.
Text comparison compares the current content of two chapters regardless of time.
The whole-document comparison in revision comparison compares two points in time of one document. It does not compare two different documents. For details, see Comparing Revisions.
Comparing Chapters
Compare chapters as follows.
Go to the <Tool | Compare Text> menu.
Click the <Choose a chapter.> link on the left below the title.
Select a document from the document list on the left, and then select a chapter from the table of contents that appears on the right.
Click the <Choose a chapter.> link on the right, and then select the other chapter to compare in the same way.
When both chapters are selected, the screen splits into left and right panes and shows the differences between the two chapters.
Note the following.
You can select only chapters of documents you can access.
If you select a chapter again, the content on that side is replaced and compared again.
You can also select chapters hidden in the web viewer.
Comparing as Markdown
Converts the chapter content to Markdown instead of HTML and then compares it.
Supported starting with ManualWorks 6.0.15.
Shows differences in the text rather than in HTML tags.
