What Is a Server ID?

A server ID is a string of 36 characters, including the separators (-).

Example: A13B03AE-FE51-35D4-FAE0-0CE2BEE71D22

Each computer where you install ManualWorks gets its own server ID, and the license key is generated from the server ID. You need the server ID to get a license key. You can find the server ID as follows.

Server IDs and Network Interfaces

The server ID is generated from the MAC address of the first network interface that has one. If you replace a network card, or if a virtual adapter is added and the order of network interfaces changes, the server ID shown on the screen can change.

A license key you already have stays valid as long as the MAC address in the key belongs to any of the server's network interfaces. So if only the order of the network interfaces changed, you do not need a new license key even if the server ID looks different. If you replaced the network card and the MAC address used for the license key is no longer on the server, you must get a new license key with the new server ID.

To fix the network interface used for the server ID, add -D3rabbitz.network_interface=INTERFACE_NAME to the startup script options. If no network interface has that name, ManualWorks logs a warning and uses all network interfaces. For details, see Setting the Network Interface.
