Using OpenJDK

ManualWorks supports OpenJDK as well as Oracle Java. OpenJDK must be version 11.0.1 or later. If you start ManualWorks with an earlier OpenJDK, ManualWorks shows an error page for every request. The OpenJDK website does not publish minor updates, so we recommend Eclipse Temurin.

Download and use the latest update of Java 25.

Installing OpenJDK

Windows

  1. Download OpenJDK from this page.

  2. Download the ZIP file and extract it. No installation is needed. Or download the MSI file and run the installer.

Linux

  1. Download OpenJDK from this page.

  2. Extract the downloaded file. No installation is needed.

Extract the file with the following command.

tar xvf OpenJDK25U-jdk_x64_linux_hotspot_25.0.1_8.tar.gz

Checking the JDBC Driver

When you choose a JDBC driver, check that it supports your OpenJDK version.

You do not need to consider this if you use the default database.

When PDF Theme Preview Does Not Work on Linux

If PDF theme preview does not work on Linux, do the following.

  1. Go to the JAVA_HOME/lib directory. JAVA_HOME is the directory where OpenJDK is installed.

  2. Create a fontconfig.properties file with the following content.

version=1
sequence.allfonts=default
  1. Restart ManualWorks.
