Password Recovery

To offer password recovery (“Forgot your password?”) on the login page, you must configure the mail server. For details, see Configuring Mail.

When All Administrators Have Lost Their Passwords

Even if no user with the “Administrator” role remembers their password and password recovery is unavailable because the mail server is not configured, you can temporarily change a user's password.

3RABBITZ_HOME refers to the directory where ManualWorks is installed.

  1. Open the 3RABBITZ_HOME/web/WEB-INF/web.xml file.

  2. Remove the comment markers, and replace userid with the username whose password you want to change and password with the new password.

<!-- remove this line
<context-param>
  <param-name>change_password</param-name>
  <param-value>userid/password</param-value>
</context-param>
--> remove this line
  1. Restart ManualWorks.

  2. Log in with the new password, and change the password in the <My Profile> menu.

  3. Restore the 3RABBITZ_HOME/web/WEB-INF/web.xml file to its original state.

  4. Restart ManualWorks.

If you do not restore the 3RABBITZ_HOME/web/WEB-INF/web.xml file, the password is changed to the configured value every time the server restarts.

Requiring Complex Passwords

A complex password is at least 10 characters long, contains both letters and numbers, and has no spaces. Require users to use complex passwords as follows.

  1. Go to the <Admin | Preferences | General> menu. The “Administrator” role is required.

  2. Click the <Change> link in the <Options> panel.

  3. Select the <Use complex password.> option, and save.
