We've added several features for creating documents with Markdown in ManualWorks.
Importing and creating
Drag a Markdown file onto the editor to import its content.
Drag a Markdown file(.md) from your file explorer onto the editor, and elements with its content are added.
You can also drag a Markdown file onto the document's table of contents to create a chapter from it.
Drag a Markdown file(.md) from your file explorer onto the ‘table of contents,’ and a new chapter is created from the file's content, with its chapter contents generated automatically.
By default, the chapter title is the name of the Markdown file. But if there is only one “Heading 1” element, that heading becomes the chapter title and the element is deleted.
If the file contains external image addresses that the server can access, the images are automatically converted and saved as ManualWorks internal images.
Writing and editing
In the editor's “Markdown element,” you can write content with Markdown syntax.
The editor supports the Markdown element type. The Markdown element type appears in the element type list only when you first create an element. If you use Markdown syntax often, set 1Markdown as the ‘Default Element Type’ in the editor settings (settings) menu.
When you save a Markdown element, it is automatically converted into the matching ManualWorks element types. For details, see Writing Markdown Elements.
You can compare text as Markdown.
In the <Tool | Compare Text> menu, compare different chapters as Markdown instead of HTML.
Using and managing
Copy chapter content as Markdown from the web viewer and use it in the editor or other tools.
1The copied content is saved to the clipboard, and you can paste it into the editor with Ctrl+V. Paste it into a Markdown element in the editor to add elements or create a new chapter.
You can copy one chapter at a time. Whole documents aren't supported.
You can also view the Markdown format by copying the path. Click the “2Copy Path” menu to copy an address that includes the .md extension.
You can also view the content in Markdown format by typing the .md extension at the end of an existing chapter address yourself.

You can migrate sites written in Markdown.
This works for sites that publish Markdown addresses(.md) alongside their web page addresses. It crawls the website to collect URLs and automatically converts them into ManualWorks documents. For example, you can import the content of sites like GitHub Docs and Claude Docs into ManualWorks.
For details, see Importing Sites Written in Markdown into ManualWorks.
You can hide the Markdown menu in the web viewer.
If needed, you can set the web viewer to hide the Markdown menu.
To hide the Markdown menu in the web viewer, run the following command in the Console.
set-preference -name SUPPORT_CHAPTER_MD_DOWNLOAD -value false
